What is the difference between transcription and captions?

A transcript is a read-along text with punctuation automatically generated from speech. The automated transcription function is part of all the subscription plans of Alrite.

Captions are timecoded text versions of the speech which matches the media and are usually used to support accessibility of the video.

Captioning, caption editing and burned-in caption features are available in certain subscription packages that include the video captioning function. With other subscriptions you can try out the automatic captioning function on the first 2 minutes of each file.

How can I share transcripts and captions from the Alrite speech to text app with others?

Files and associated text versions can be shared with others, who may not have an Alrite account.

When sharing, the file’s datasheet is sent to a public URL, which you can share via SMS, email or on other social media platforms.

Using Alrite in private cloud can be an excellent choice for companies looking for a personalised speech recognition solution based on the latest technologies to support their business processes, with the following benefits:

How can the Chat feature be used on the document details page to discuss the content of the transcript?

Using the Chat feature available on the document details page, users can engage in a direct conversation with Aida, Alrite’s virtual assistant. Aida not only searches the transcript but also interprets its content, enabling her to answer content-related questions.

You can ask any content-specific question, such as: “What was the main topic of the conversation?”, “What issue was discussed?”, or “What did person X say about the proposed solution?” Aida will respond based on the transcript.

What kind of questions can I ask the chatbot on the document details page?

Aida, Alrite’s AI-powered assistant, allows users to ask questions about the content of a transcript and receive meaningful answers. The feature is accessible on Alrite’s website and within the app, directly from the document details page by clicking the Chat button.

Conversations are saved and can be reviewed later. For business accounts—with the appropriate permissions—other users can also join ongoing chats. Aida responds exclusively based on the content of the transcript and can be used up to 20 times per version.

This feature is not available in the Starter plan; it is only included in the Lite, Plus, Prime, Premium, and Professional subscription packages.

How can I quickly check and improve the accuracy of the transcript using automated tools?

With Alrite’s Smart Correct feature, the accuracy of the transcript can be automatically checked and improved in just a few clicks. Once initiated, the system compiles a list of potentially incorrect sections and offers context-based correction suggestions. Users can review these suggestions one by one and choose to accept or reject them individually.

For even better results, users may optionally define specific terms or expressions in advance—but this is not required.

Can a document’s details be retrieved in the Alrite application?

Yes, a document’s metadata and statistics can be accessed in the Alrite application under the Data and Information section on the file details page. Here, you can view the creation date, language, upload package, deletion date, word and character counts, speaker changes, as well as charts showing the speaker distribution and speech rate trends.

In the Alrite application, you can enable the marking of interrupted sentences with an ellipsis (…) according to captioning standards. To do this, click the orange speech bubble icon with three dots next to the Captions heading.

AUTOMATIC TRANSCRIPT

How does the Alrite speech to text AI indicate if there are multiple speakers in the audio?

The AI powered Alrite speech to text system indicates in the text
changes in speakers within audio or video material by starting a new line and placing a dash at the beginning when it recognizes that a different person is speaking.

This feature is available in the free Starter package and for individual users in the Lite and Plus packages.

However, business subscriptions (Prime, Premium, Professional) include a more advanced speaker identification service. In this service, the application assigns unique numbers to different speakers and attempts to identify them if they appear multiple times within materials of up to 3 hours in length.

What affects the accuracy of the text generated by Alrite?

The accuracy of the transcript is influenced by several factors, such as:

  • Audio quality – The clearer the recording, the more accurate the transcript will be.
  • Recording conditions – In direct recordings (e.g., dictation), microphone proximity and minimal background noise are key.
  • Speech clarity – Well-articulated speech delivered at a natural pace improves recognition accuracy.
How can I improve the sound quality of my file to get a more accurate transcript?

Alrite can generate highly accurate text from speech detected in recordings from a clear, direct sound source.

  • To achieve clear, high quality audio, we recommend recording in a quiet environment without background noise. It will greatly improve intelligibility if the participants do not speak at the same time and if the microphone is positioned close to the speakers.
  • When using the Alrite recording function, we recommend starting with the app’s microphone test to ensure that you can understand what is being said without spending extra timecredit.
  • When uploading a file, we suggest checking the quality of the file in an external media player before processing it with the speech to text system.
How can timings be displayed in the transcript generated by Alrite?

The transcript text generated with the Alrite speech to text application can be exported as a Word-compatible .docx document in two different formats in the Alrite business subscription packages.

  • Without any timestamps, as read-along text as it appears on the file datasheet,
  • or in an optimised form with timings, e.g. for interviews and note-taking. Timings are displayed paragraph by paragraph, before the text. The starting time can be individually set before downloading the document.

With the free Starter or subscription packages for individual use, the transcripts can be downloaded without timings in .docx format.

Can Alrite make a summary of the transcript?

The Alrite system offers the option to generate automatic summaries and keyword extractions based on processed transcripts. This feature is available in all subscription plans except for the Lite plan, which is intended for private individuals.

With the Plus, Prime, Premium, and Professional plans, you can create concise and well-structured summaries with a single click, and the system also automatically highlights the most relevant keywords. These content extracts and tags can be edited, copied, and easily inserted into other documents or reports.

AUTOMATIC CAPTIONING

Which Alrite subscription package should I choose for video captioning?

Video subtitling and related features – such as subtitle editing and exporting hardcoded subtitles – are available for private users in the Plus plan, and for business users in the Premium and Professional plans.

Subtitles can be exported as simple text files in .srt and .vtt formats, or saved burned onto the video with customizable display options in various video formats.

The subtitle editing and burning functions are not available in the Lite plan for private use (optimized for automatic transcription), in the business-focused Prime plan, or in the free monthly renewing Starter plan. In these plans, only the first 2 minutes of the processed file are subtitled, for the purpose of testing the feature.

The real-time (live) subtitling feature is only available in the advanced Professional plan.

It is important to note that each file retains the functionality associated with the subscription plan active at the time of upload.

Which Alrite package include the burned-in captions with custom display export feature?

For business subscriptions, both the Premium and Professional packages, as well as the Plus package for individual users, include video captioning and caption burning features.
Videos processed under these subscriptions can be exported with fully customisable display — including settings for position, font, font size, font colour, and background colour.

As part of the custom appearance, captions can also be displayed in karaoke mode, where the caption colour changes dynamically in sync with the video’s rhythm, highlighting the spoken words.

In how many lines does Alrite display the captions?

During the subtitling process, it is possible to define in advance whether the subtitles should be created with 1, 2, or 3 lines per block. This setting is available for private users in the Plus plan, and for business users in the Premium and Professional plans. In addition to the number of subtitle lines, the CPL (characters per line) value can also be customized. The generated subtitles can be individually modified in Alrite’s subtitle editor — including adjusting timings and splitting or merging subtitle blocks. These plans also allow the maximum number of characters per line and the number of lines to be adjusted even after the file has been processed.

The Smart Captioning feature further enhances this by automatically adjusting line lengths and the number of lines in each block based on grammatical and syntactic analysis of the text. This helps keep linguistically related elements within the same line or block, improving readability and natural flow.

The free Starter plan, as well as the Prime plan (optimized for transcription in business use) and the Lite plan (for private users) do not include full subtitle functionality. In these plans, subtitles are generated in 3-line blocks, only for the first 2 minutes of the uploaded file, for testing purposes.

How can I change the position of the captions in the Alrite app?

Subtitle files downloaded from Alrite (.srt, .vtt) do not contain information about position or visual styling. In these cases, the appearance of the subtitles (such as their position) depends on the settings of the media player used for playback, not on how they appeared in the Alrite interface.

If you would like to download the video with burned-in subtitles that have a custom appearance—such as personalized position, font, or color—this option is available in the Plus, Premium, and Professional subscription plans before exporting the video.

Why only 2-minutes long captions appear on certain file data sheets?

For files processed in a package that does not include the video captioning feature (e.g. Free Starter, Lite, or business Prime), the system generates subtitles only for the first 2 minutes of the video for trial purposes.

Full-length subtitles are only generated in subscription plans that include the video captioning feature (e.g. Plus, Premium, Professional).

REAL-TIME TRANSCRIPTION AND CAPTIONING

What is the difference between real-time transcription and captioning versus processing pre-recorded content?

Processing of pre-recorded content takes place after the recording is complete: users can upload pre-recorded audio or video files, share social media videos, or record directly within the platform. The system analyzes the full content of the file and generates an accurate, editable transcript—and subtitles as well, if included in the subscription—based on context. This functionality is available in all subscription plans.

In contrast, real-time processing and captioning apply to live content (e.g., conferences, online broadcasts), where spoken text is displayed as captions with a few seconds’ delay and continuously updated. Since no prior context is available in real-time scenarios, minor inaccuracies may occur, which can be corrected later in the transcript document.

How can I transcribe and caption my content live and share it with viewers?

If you wish to transcribe and caption your content or voice in real time, this is easily achievable with the Real-time function. This feature allows you to process speech recorded via microphone or audio and video files played on your device in real time. The function settings enable you to specify key broadcast parameters, such as the language of the speech to be processed and the broadcast title.

During the broadcast, you can pause or stop the process, and at the end, the system automatically generates a transcript that participants can access.

Real-time processing functions are available only to users with the Professional package.

How can I transcribe and caption my online content in real time and broadcast it to viewers?

If you want to process your online content in real time, the Live Streaming feature allows you to easily add captions to live streams.

The settings for this feature let you define key parameters, such as the language of the speech to be processed and the title of the broadcast.

During the broadcast, you can pause or stop the stream as needed. The system automatically generates captions from the speech, and at the end of the broadcast, the transcript can be saved and shared with both the broadcaster and viewers.

Real-time processing features are available exclusively for users with the Professional package.

DATA AND SYSTEM PROTECTION

What authorisation system is used to manage Alrite business accounts?

An unlimited number of accounts can be invited to the Alrite business subscriptions. The invited users can transcribe, caption and translate their own media directly in Alrite using the same timecredit.

Accounts can be managed with three levels of authorisation:

  • With a ‘Company admin’ account, all company-related files are accessible, and the company admin(s) can manage company-related users and orders.
  • The ‘Superuser’ can also see access to all uploaded files and manage orders, but cannot access the data of other user accounts.
  • ‘Users’ can only manage their own files.

Only users with Company admin or Superuser permissions are authorized to access and modify the company information provided in the Alrite application. These settings can be found under the “Company data” section in the Profile menu.

The availability period of files depends on the subscription plan:

  • Starter (Free): 7 days
  • Lite (Individual): 1 month
  • Plus (Individual): 6 months
  • Prime (Business): 6 months
  • Premium & Professional (Business): 1 year
  • Real-time streaming (Professional): Transcript available for 30 days

Once the availability period expires, files are automatically and permanently deleted. After this point, they will no longer be accessible or recoverable within the Alrite system or database.

The application displays the exact deletion date for each file and allows users to enable in-app and push notifications to alert them before a file is permanently deleted.

Where and how is my data stored in the Alrite app?

Data Storage and Security
All data is stored in a secure cloud infrastructure, on exclusive servers located in Hungary, dedicated solely to the Alrite system.

Individual (natural person) subscribers have access only to their own data and uploaded files. In the case of legal entities, access to user data associated with the subscription is regulated based on assigned permission levels.
The system features multi-level security protections. Data can only be accessed by authorized personnel, exclusively for maintenance purposes, and all such actions are logged.

Translation (DeepL)
The automatic translation feature available in higher-tier packages uses DeepL technology.

How can I order the selected Alrite subscription plan?

In the web application, you can initiate an order by clicking the ‘Subscription’ button in the top menu.

Select the currency, the subscription package, and specify the time credit (the number of hours you wish to purchase – one-time payment). Choose the payment method from the options (Stripe or PayPal). After successful payment, the subscription is automatically activated in the account.

All subscriptions require a minimum order of 10 hours of timecredit that you can use in 1 year.

If you require a customized or additional service, feel free to send us a request for a quote via your account or contact us directly at support@alrite.io

For how long can I use the ordered timecredit?

The timecredit ordered can be used within 1 year, at any time, there is no monthly subscription obligation.

If you need more time during the subscription period, you can purchase additional time (min 10 hours) with a new order.

If you order again before the end of the subscription period, before your timecredit runs out, the remaining timecredit from the previous subscription will be automatically added to the new one, and its usage time will be extended, valid for 1 year from the date of the new purchase.

When will the timecredit be deducted in the Alrite speech to text app?

The time quota is deducted precisely—down to the second—based on the actual length of the uploaded or directly recorded audio or video file, at the start of processing.

In the Plus, Premium, and Professional subscriptions, both the transcript and captions are generated in a single processing session, so the time quota is reduced only once.

Automatic translation does not consume additional time credit.

What is the difference between the Premium and Prime Alrite packages?

The main difference between the Prime and Premium package is the captioning feature.

  • The Prime subscription package is optimized for automatic transcription of audio and video material. Files are stored for 6 months or until you choose to delete them.
  • The Premium package with extended functionality is recommended for transcription and video captioning. The Premium package includes the full functionality of the Prime package, in addition to that it offers video captioning, caption editing, captions burning, and extended automatic machine translation languages. Files are stored for 1 year or until you choose to delete them.
What is the difference between the Premium and Professional Alrite packages?
  • The Premium package primarily focuses on processing pre-recorded materials, allowing for the transformation of recorded audio within the app, as well as various audio and video files into transcripts and captions, along with quick processing of various online videos (YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Dailymotion). Additionally, the package includes automatic translation of text versions and burning subtitles onto videos.
  • The Professional package includes all the functionality of the Premium package, along with real-time captioning, which allows for the immediate conversion of live content, such as online broadcasts, presentations, and lectures, into text with only a few seconds of delay.
How can I change my Alrite subscription plan?

In the Alrite system, you can modify your current subscription in two ways:

  1. By purchasing a new plan: When you buy a different subscription, the remaining time quota from your current plan is automatically recalculated based on the price ratio between the old and new plans, and added to the new quota. The recalculated value is displayed on the interface before completing the purchase.
  2. By switching plans: You can change plans without placing a new order. In this case, only your existing time quota is proportionally recalculated. To do this, select the desired plan and click the “Switch Plan” button on its card.

Important: Switching plans does not affect your subscription’s validity period and does not change the settings for files already processed. These files retain the features of the plan under which they were uploaded or processed.

For more details, please refer to the Alrite Terms and Conditions.

ALRITE MOBILE APPLICATION

How can I download the Alrite mobile application?

The Alrite speech to text mobileapp can be downloaded from the App Store or from the the Google Play application stores for free.

What is automated speech to text?

Automatic speech recognition services use artificial intelligence to convert previously recorded or directly captured audio and video content into text within minutes—or even seconds.

Alrite’s speech recognition software, for example, leverages AI to automatically transcribe speech (currently in 14 languages), generate translations, create captions, and offer a wide range of additional useful features.

What should I consider when recording to ensure that Alrite voice recognition produces the most accurate transcript?

The accuracy of a transcript is primarily determined by the quality of the audio recording and the clarity of speech. With good-quality recordings, accuracy can reach as high as 90–95%.

To ensure a high-quality transcript:

  • Record clear audio: Avoid background noise and choose a quiet environment.
  • Speak at an appropriate volume and maintain a steady pace.
  • Keep the microphone close to the speaker, ideally facing the direction of the sound.
  • Use a single-direction audio source: Speech coming from multiple directions may reduce accuracy.
  • Record in an enclosed, echo-free space.

If recording with a mobile phone:

  • Point the phone’s microphone toward the sound source (usually located at the bottom of the device).
  • Use the “Test Microphone” feature before meetings (this does not consume time credit).
  • Ensure speakers are not too far from the device, and avoid overlapping speech.
Do I need internet access to use the Alrite speech to text app?

All features of the Alrite speech to text web application require a stable internet connection,  while with the mobile application audio or video can be recorded offline.

Once recorded with the Alrite mobile app, the recording is stored in the mobile device’s memory and is temporarily (as long as it remains logged in) added to the ‘Files waiting to be Uploaded’ in the Alrite mobile app.

In order to generate transcript and captions of the mobile app recording, you will need to upload the file, which again requires an internet connection.

How can I order from the mobile app?

Only the individual users (for private use) can subscribe in the Alrite mobile app, as payment is made via the App Store or Google Play account linked to the mobile device and the invoice is issued by the company running the store based on the data stored there.

What is the difference between Alrite's web app and its mobile app?

You can choose to upload the file immediately before processing recordings recorded with the Alrite mobile app, or you can listen back, save and send the recording.

Files that you do not want to process immediately after you have finished recording in the mobile app are temporarily (while you remain logged into the app) stored in the phone’s internal memory and are stored in a separate folder in the app, from which you can upload or delete them.
